Potty Training Chart

Potty training your child is certainly a milestone and one that most parents are only too happy to reach. It can be a frustrating and sometimes stressful time for both parent and child, but there are ways to make it a positive experience for all involved. It has been found that using rewards to reinforce good behaviour will get a much better result than applying punishments for bad behaviour. A potty training chart is a fantastic way to praise your child for using the potty and most kids seem to love them, especially when there is a special sticker or stamp involved.

When making a chart for your child it is important to remember that visualization is the key. A child of two or three years of age will not understand if you just write down their name and the task. You need to use pictures and make it colourful as well as large enough for them to see clearly what it means. This works especially well if you can incorporate the character from a favorite TV show or doll that they may like.

Nothing will help your child more when learning to use the potty than praise. Being angry when accidents occur may only make them anxious and fearful of using it, which is the opposite of what you are trying to achieve. Involving other family members such as an older brother or sister, or showing Dad the chart when he comes home from work can help motivate your child and increase their confidence.

Making your own potty training chart does not need to be difficult. By incorporating their favourite things and making it fun and exciting, you will have another tool at your disposable to help get them out of diapers as soon as they are ready.
