Kids Chore Charts

Making your child a chore chart is a great idea. They will be able to see exactly what they need to do without you having to constantly remind them. If you are worried that they might not use it there are several things you can do when making your kids chore charts that will make your children actually want to use them.

The first tip is to let your child help plan the chart and how it will work. Does your child want to tick off their own completed chores or do they want to hang the chart in a particular place? You will find that you can inspire a sense of ownership by letting your child have some input into the planning of the chart.

A second tip is to make sure that there are consequences for your child for both completing and not completing their chores. Without an incentive to get the job done, there will be little enthusiasm too. What you choose for a reward is completely up to you. Will they get a sticker to put on their chore chart? Perhaps you will agree to some fun activity or game to play with your child or possibly even tie it to their allowance.

A last tip is to make sure that there is an element of fun involved. Make your child’s chore chart brightly colored and use special stickers or stamps. Sometimes even the word ‘chores’ should be replaced with another word such as ‘help’ or ‘responsibility’ in order to avoid negative feelings.

Kids chore charts are a fantastic opportunity to help your child learn about contributing to the household and developing responsibility and a good work ethic. As a parent you can not only get some much needed help around the house but also help your child learn some valuable life lessons.
